The Government has placed a strong emphasis on the reconstruction and repair of key roads, both urban and rural, in the 2025 budget.

Hon. Johnny Koanapo, the Minister responsible for Finance, highlighted that improving road infrastructure is a major priority. “An allocation of 100 million Vatu for the resurfacing of roads in Port Vila is crucial. This is not only due to the 100 million, but also because of the support from the PNG government, which we greatly appreciate. They are also interested in funding the Kumul Highway,” Koanapo said.

He added that discussions are underway with the Minister of Public Utilities and the Chinese government regarding an additional 2 billion Vatu to revitalize important sectors of Port Vila’s infrastructure. “Our goal is to rebuild Port Vila while simultaneously improving our road network. If we successfully secure this funding, it will significantly enhance our infrastructure,” Koanapo concluded.
