The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) transitions into the Department of Communication and Digital Transformation (DCDT).
The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) officially became the Department of Communication and Digital Transformation (DCDT) last Friday afternoon, signaling a significant milestone in Vanuatu’s digital journey.
Digital transformation is a key priority for the nation, following the launch of the Digital Transformation Master Plan in September this year. The new department aims to drive innovative efforts to make government services more accessible online.
Deputy Director of DCDT, John Jack, emphasised the importance of this shift:
“Our goal is to ensure that government services are accessible online, promoting ease of use for citizens. This launch marks the beginning of a long journey, and we are ready to lead the way.”
He further highlighted the necessity of digital transformation in today’s world:
“Digital transformation is no longer optional; it is a necessity. Governments, private sectors, and entire nations must embrace it to remain competitive. This approach ensures inclusivity and collaboration across the nation.”
One of DCDT’s immediate goals is to establish a national cloud network for Vanuatu. Jack explained:
“Our dedicated team will manage this infrastructure, leveraging international cloud platforms to deliver improved services to our citizens. This is a major step forward for Vanuatu.”
The DCDT aims to uplift the country’s assets and modernize operations through comprehensive digital transformation, ensuring a more connected and inclusive future for all.
