The Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs of Solomon Islands, Hon. Clezy Rore, met today with Vanuatu’s Minister of Justice, Youth and Community Services, Hon. Job Andy, to reaffirm cooperation between the two nations’ justice sectors.
The discussions focused on the benefits of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed last year between the Solomon Islands Minister of Justice and former Vanuatu Minister of Justice, MP John Amos Nalau. The agreement has already enabled staff exchanges between the Vanuatu Law Reform Commission and the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission, giving officers the chance to share knowledge, strengthen capacity, and gain valuable professional experience.
Minister Rore noted that he was pleased to see Solomon Islands officials working alongside their counterparts in Vanuatu, saying the exchanges were helping staff to broaden their perspectives and learn new approaches to their work.
Minister Andy acknowledged that the collaboration was a positive step in moving both countries’ justice sectors forward. He said that the two nations faced many of the same challenges, and by working together, they were finding stronger and more effective solutions.
Director General of the Ministry of Justice, Youth and Community Services, Ms. Cherol Ala, said the courtesy visit reflected Melanesian solidarity and the commitment of both governments to building stronger institutions. She added that the initiative showed the determination of leaders in Vanuatu and Solomon Islands to deepen cooperation through practical programs.
Ala also noted that she hoped future staff exchanges would expand beyond the law reform commissions to other departments under the Ministry of Justice, Youth and Community Services. She explained that this would allow more officers to gain exposure to new ideas, share experiences, and continue strengthening ties between the two Melanesian nations.
The visit reaffirmed the shared vision of Vanuatu and Solomon Islands in advancing justice through collaboration, mutual learning, and regional solidarity.
