The Vanuatu Government is stepping up efforts to expand its export market for local beef, cocoa, and selected fresh produce. The Ministry of Trade is driving this initiative with a clear aim: to establish a consistent and long-term export pathway that will benefit the country’s economy and rural communities.
A formal request has already been made by the Ministry of Trade to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade to begin trade negotiations with the People’s Republic of China.
In a recent press release, the Ministry of Trade stated that the move follows Minister Samson Samsen’s official visit to China, where he met with potential investors who showed strong interest in Vanuatu’s agricultural products.
Minister Samsen said this new export strategy is expected to increase national revenue, create job opportunities, and uplift the livelihoods of farmers and producers in rural areas.
“The Ministry is confident that this move will lead to positive outcomes for the agriculture sector, manufacturing industry, and trade relations with China,” said Minister Samsen.
He also emphasized that the Ministry’s goal is to open up sustainable trade opportunities that last and ensure Vanuatu’s local products reach new international markets.
