Three schools in Luganville have their own water reserves, ensuring that learning continues even during water cuts.
Principal Education Officer for Sanma, Thompson Wari Paul, confirmed to VBTC News that the schools are Bombua, Lycée de Luganville, and Santo East.
In an interview, Bombua School Principal Jimmy Solomon said the school remained unaffected following the recent earthquake, with independent power and water systems in place.
“The school does not have any damage. We have independent power, so when there is a power outage, we still have power available, and our water supply is also independent.”
At Lycée de Luganville, Principal Barthelemy Ngwele confirmed the school has two 10,000-litre water tanks.
“With the issue of water cuts, we have reserves, and we also have a project to add more water tanks. For now, we have sufficient supply.”
However, Santo East School faces challenges due to its large student population of over 2,000 students.
“Our water tank is full and safe, but the issue is the large number of students. When they gather, the water can be used up quickly. We hope the government will look into adding more water tanks.”
Mr. Paul said he would like to see more schools adopt their own water and solar energy systems, in line with the Government’s national development plan.
