Around 10 teachers have been terminated by the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) following investigations into their participation in recent strikes.
According to a reliable source from TSC, these teachers are among the 600 suspended teachers under investigation by the Teaching Service Commission and have officially received termination letters as of last week.
The suspensions and subsequent terminations stem from claims and demands made by teachers who participated in recent strikes. While the Ministry of Education confirmed that the government is addressing legitimate claims through TSC, some demands were deemed unfeasible and thus dismissed from consideration.
Vanuatu Teachers Union (VTU) brought a stay order to court to challenge the suspensions of its members.
However, early this week TSC presented a statement confirming the recent terminations, prompting the court to adjourn the case to November 28. The adjournment allows VTU to amend its stay order to include the new terminations.
The outcome of the court’s decision will be crucial in determining the next steps for the suspended and terminated teachers, as well as the ongoing resolution of disputes between the government and educators.
