“China is always there, along with the UN and other development partners, to help and support Vanuatu,” says Ambassador Li Minggang during the official handing over of emergency relief supplies.
The ceremony took place this morning in the VIP Lounge at the airport between the Government of China and the Caretaker Government of Vanuatu.
Ambassador Li Minggang hands over 35 tonnes of emergency relief supplies, including tents, folding beds, solar lights, food, water purifiers, and medical equipment, with a total value of 255 million Vatu, to Caretaker Prime Minister Charlot Salwai.
In addition to these donations, the Chinese Red Cross donates 100,000 USD (over 12 million Vatu) to Vanuatu, and the Government of China also provides millions of USD in emergency cash aid to the country.
Some of these donations include sending four (4) experts from China to conduct critical safety assessments on buildings and infrastructure.
Other significant donations are also made by China to the country during this time of disaster.
