Port Vila’s safety and livability are set to improve with ambitious town upgrades underway.
Port Vila City Council (PVCC) is spearheading a series of town upgrades to address safety concerns, improve public spaces, and create a cleaner, greener city. The plans come in response to feedback from residents, highlighting the need for better infrastructure and enhanced living conditions.
One key initiative involves upgrading streetlights to improve safety in poorly lit areas. The council is working with Unelco and exploring solar-powered options to ensure reliable lighting throughout the city. “Safety is a top priority, and streetlights play a crucial role in addressing security issues at night,” said a PVCC representative.
The council is also prioritizing the creation of green spaces to provide recreational areas for families and attract tourists. These efforts align with the council’s broader vision of a healthier, more vibrant Port Vila. “Green spaces are essential for the community’s well-being and for boosting the city’s appeal to visitors,” the representative added.
Lady Mayor Hon. Jenny Regenvanu has expressed her commitment to seeing these projects come to fruition, stating, “Upgrading our city is about creating a safe, clean environment for everyone, not just tourists but also residents.”
PVCC is calling on residents and stakeholders to support these initiatives, emphasizing that community involvement is vital to their long-term success. The council aims to complete the upgrades promptly, ensuring a positive impact on the city’s livability and appeal.
Hon. Regenvanu reiterated, “These changes are not just cosmetic; they are about enhancing the quality of life in Port Vila and making it a city we can all take pride in.”
