PM Napat Urges Economic Shift in Talks with International Partners

Prime Minister Jotham Napat has outlined economic transformation as Vanuatu’s top priority during the Second Development Partners Round Table Toktok held today in Port Vila.

From a press release it states that the meeting with international partners, including Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the World Bank, the United Nations, and SPC, the Prime Minister reflected on national progress since the 2024 earthquake. He thanked partners for their rapid support, which helped restore essential services and assist communities in recovering.

Speaking at the round table, PM Napat said Vanuatu’s future growth depends on removing investment barriers, improving the business environment, and developing key sectors such as tourism and agriculture. He also emphasised the need for infrastructure and services to keep pace with national needs.

“The people of Vanuatu — their health, education, and opportunities — will drive this transformation and shape the nation’s long-term success,” the Prime Minister said.

He also noted that stronger monitoring, transparency, and accountability would be crucial to ensure government efforts deliver visible benefits to communities.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that, through collaboration with development partners, Vanuatu can build a more resilient, competitive, and inclusive economy, benefiting every ni-Vanuatu.
