The recently launched Penama Skills Centre is set to provide crucial training and advisory services, supporting income generation, employment, and small business development across the Penama Province. This new facility is a joint initiative supported by the Australian Government through the Vanuatu Skills Partnership, with the goal of decentralising government services to reach rural communities.
Hilson Boe, President of the Penama Province, noted that the Centre was a long-standing request since 2022, aimed at enhancing the skills of people in Ambae, Pentecost, and Maewo.
“We believe this partnership will continue to grow, working together to support development across Ambae, Pentecost, and Maewo through various skill-building initiatives,” said President Boe.
Australian High Commissioner to Vanuatu, H.E Max Willis, expressed Australia’s commitment to the project, emphasising the importance of accessible skills training and business coaching for the people of Penama.
“Through the Vanuatu Skills Partnership, Australia is very pleased to support the growth of the economy and the people of Penama by enhancing skills and business opportunities,” he stated.
Penama now joins Malampa, Sanma, Tafea, and Torba as the fifth province to establish a Skills Centre, with its official launch held yesterday in Saratamata, East Ambae. This Centre is expected to have a significant impact on the region’s economic growth and local skills development.
