VBTC and FBC Join Forces in Co-Design Workshop to Develop Cross-Country Youth Farming Content Strategy

A two-day co-design workshop has brought together representatives from the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) and the Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television Corporation (VBTC) to develop a collaborative strategy for the Content Fund project. Held under the guidance of ABC International Development (ABC ID), the workshop aimed to produce a unified content plan focused on agricultural storytelling, particularly targeting youth in rural and regional areas.

Facilitated by Caroline Winter of ABC ID, the workshop featured expert insights from Rita Narayan (PACMAS Fiji Project Manager), Drew Radford (ABC ID’s specialist in rural and agricultural audio/radio content), and Dr Carmel Pilotti, Gene Bank Curator from the Pacific Community (SPC). Seven participants took part—four from FBC and three from VBTC.

Throughout the sessions, the team explored and developed content ideas designed to educate, inform, and entertain audiences through radio and digital/social platforms. With a specific focus on youth farming, participants collaborated to pitch impactful story concepts aimed at enhancing agricultural knowledge across both nations.

Day one of the workshop centered on introductions, expert presentations, and the ideation of cross-country story concepts. On day two, the teams drilled into logistical details, resource allocation, and finalizing the content strategy document, which will include project titles, descriptions, platforms, budgets, and timeframes.

“This training is significant because it gives us the tools and partnerships to create content that actually speaks to young people in the region,” said one participant. “It’s about making farming relatable, aspirational, and relevant through stories that are grounded in their realities.”

The final strategy will be presented to FBC and VBTC management, along with ABC ID, for approval ahead of the content rollout.
