The Vanuatu Government has given VT30 million for the renovation of the Luganville Municipal Town Hall.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Internal Affairs Minister, Ishmael Kalsakau, also handed over the sum of VT30 million to the Luganville Mayor, Peter Patty, in Port Vila yesterday.
Minister Kalsakau says the funds were from his Ministry’s own budget and were part of the Government’s commitment towards the recovery of its key institutions.
During the handing over ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Kalsakau says he was pleased the Government had responded to Mr Patty’s call for support for Luganville.
He also asked Mr Patty to ensure the building was renovated with building completed before the end of this year.
In response, the Luganville Mayor acknowledged the support and commitment from the Government to the people of Luganville.
Mr Patty said the commitment showed the strong partnership that has been in action since him taking up the position of mayor.
He also gave assurance to the Deputy Prime Minister that the timeline of the end of 2020 for the renovations to be completed would be met.
The Luganville Municipal Town Hall is one of the buildings in Luganville that was badly damaged by Cyclone Harold in April, this year.
