Emae, Vanuatu – The villages of Sangava and Marae on Emae Island have received CDCCC Emergency Kits this week, aimed at strengthening community resilience in the face of natural disasters and climate change impacts.
These Community Disaster and Climate Change Committee (CDCCC) Emergency Kits are designed to support local disaster preparedness efforts and enhance the ability of communities to adapt to impacts or effects of climate change.
The distribution follows a four-day CDCCC training, conducted by the Vanuatu Community-Based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP) for local committee members.
The CDCCC Emergency kits were funded by the VCCRP under the Department of Climate Change, and were delivered to Emae under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) recently signed between the Department of Climate Change and HELPR 1, ensuring that communities in Emae receive this essential emergency resources.
According to Joshua Jimmy, the VCCRP Area Council Climate Change Officer on Emae, this marks the first time communities on the island have received such emergency kits.
“These emergency kits are meant to empower CDCCC projects in communities so they can respond effectively during disasters. We have now handed over these kits to disaster committees, and they truly appreciate the support from VCCRP. This is the first time for Emae communities to receive emergency kits following a training, providing them with tools to begin their disaster preparedness efforts,” Jimmy stated.
The initiative is expected to enhance community-led disaster preparedness and ensure a more coordinated response to future climate-related emergencies in Vanuatu.
