Port Vila, Vanuatu – The Northern Ward of the Port Vila City Council has a newly elected councilor following the by-election held on January 16, 2025.
The Graon mo Jastis Party (GJP) secured the seat with its candidate, Amos Issac, emerging as the winner after receiving 820 votes. The runner-up, James Robert Liu of the Rural Development Party (RDP), secured 713 votes. The election saw seven candidates contesting for the seat.
According to official election results, the ward recorded a total of 7,096 registered voters, with 4,108 casting their votes, reflecting a 57.89% voter turnout.
The by-election was conducted following the vacancy of the Northern Ward seat. The results highlight the continued engagement of voters in local governance, as well as the competitive nature of municipal politics.
With this victory, Amos Issac will now assume his role as a councilor, representing the residents of the Northern Ward within the Port Vila City Council.
