Nipo Calls for Stronger Support in Australia Role

Jimmy Nipo says strengthening support on the ground will be one of his top priorities as he takes up his new role as Vanuatu’s High Commissioner-designate to Australia.

Speaking after his commissioning, Mr Nipo highlighted the need for stronger staffing and structure within the mission.

“High commissioners and ambassadors need officials on the ground to support their work. Australia is a large country, and having only a few staff is not enough. One of my first tasks will be to make structural changes to ensure we are capable of effectively managing our relations in Australia,” he said.

He added that success in his role will depend on strong collaboration between the mission and government ministries back in Vanuatu.

“I can only do so much on the ground, but it is the headquarters in Port Vila and the portfolio ministries that must work together. We can only deliver if we are united,” Mr Nipo said.

The President of Vanuatu, Nikenike Vurobaravu, officially commissioned Mr Nipo earlier today.

Mr Nipo will be based in Canberra, where he will represent Vanuatu’s interests and work to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.

President Vurobaravu encouraged him to carry out his duties with integrity and dedication.

“Today you assume a role of great responsibility and honour. You are entrusted with strengthening the long-standing relationship between Vanuatu and Australia. Serve with integrity, dedication and wisdom, and represent your nation with pride,” he said.

Australia remains one of Vanuatu’s key partners, and the mission is expected to further strengthen ties based on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared development goals.
