Vanuatu United Held to 2–2 Draw but Climbs to Sixth

Despite Vanuatu United FC and Hekari United FC sharing points in yesterday’s match, Vanuatu still needs a win to further improve its position on the table.

There were changes to the standings following the match, with Vanuatu United moving up to sixth place on three points, replacing Tahiti. Tahiti dropped to seventh position with two points, while Hekari United FC remains in eighth place with one point despite yesterday’s result.

The match was one of the most exciting to watch, played on the home ground in Papua New Guinea, and attracted a strong turnout of supporters from both teams.

Vanuatu United opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the first half through a cross by Kati Yamak, which found Kaltak, who headed the ball high and straight into the Hekari United net.

The second half became more intense as Hekari United applied pressure on Vanuatu and managed to score, keeping the match tight into eight minutes of extra time. In the 92nd minute, Vanuatu United pushed for another goal, but the host team’s strong defensive wall cleared the ball near the goalmouth. The incident was judged as a handball, and a penalty was awarded to Vanuatu United after VAR made its final observation.

The final whistle saw the match end in a 2–2 draw.
