The Government of Vanuatu has reaffirmed its commitment to improving airports across the country to ensure safe, efficient, and modern facilities for both domestic and international travellers. Acting Prime Minister Johnny Koanapo confirmed that upgrades to the international arrivals and departures areas at Bauerfield Airport are a priority.
“The government is firmly committed to resuming work on our international arrivals and departure lounges,” Koanapo said.
The Government is also planning upgrades for four additional airports across the country, including Longana, Lonorore, Whitegrass, and Motalava.
“In the coming weeks, we will combine efforts to improve these airports and secure the necessary budget as soon as possible to ensure they meet expectations and the growing demand of our people,” he said.
Significant work is also scheduled at Pekoa Airport in Santo, with upgrades expected to begin in March.
“For Pekoa Airport, we hope to see major work starting by March. We must continue moving forward and stay committed to delivering results,” Koanapo said.
The Acting Prime Minister emphasised that while the Government is investing in aircraft, it is equally important to ensure airports are properly upgraded and funded.
“We pay for the planes, but we must also fix the airports. The Government remains strongly committed to allocating funds for the airports mentioned,” he said.
Koanapo added that the Government’s main focus is on domestic connectivity, linking Vanuatu’s islands and supporting the local market.
“Our priority is to strengthen domestic connectivity because it is at the heart of linking our nation together,” he said.
