Operation Noel by the Vanuatu Police Force, with support from community safety teams, has recorded a high number of crimes and traffic incidents in Port Vila following the festive season.

Over the week, eight youths were arrested in the Blacksands area and are currently being held at the correctional centre.

The youths have been charged with three serious offences: disturbing public order, attempted murder, and damage to property.

In a separate case, a suspect from Epi has been charged with attempted murder and remains in police custody, while two suspects from Tongoa have been released on bail.

On the traffic side, police impounded 71 vehicles.

Seventeen drivers were found driving without a valid driving licence, 23 were driving under the influence of alcohol, and 10 vehicles did not have proper documentation.

Police say the use of alcohol and marijuana contributed to many of the crimes and traffic offences recorded during the operation.
