Head of the West Papua Foreign Mission in Vanuatu, Freddy Waromi, claims Indonesia is influencing countries not to support West Papua’s movement.

Waromi said the process of taking the West Papua case to the International Court of Justice has been ongoing for a long time.

He said the MSG agenda for West Papua to become a full member is not possible because Indonesia continues to claim West Papua is not united , something he says is not true.

“I think it is dictated language for us not to unite. And now, especially when our leaders in Vanuatu , our Prime Ministers , raise the issue of West Papua in the General Assembly, Indonesia said Vanuatu must not interfere with the sovereignty of Indonesia,” Waromi said.

Waromi said December 1 is a wake-up call for all Melanesian brother countries.

In Vanuatu, there will be a Commemoration Day held at the Malvatumauri compound, and Waromi said Vanuatu must continue to stand firm in supporting West Papua’s movement for self-determination.

“That day reflects the suffering and hardship faced by the people of West Papua under the dictatorship and colonial rule of the Indonesian government. It is like a wake-up call for us in Melanesia , for the MSG countries ,to give a hand to our brothers in West Papua in what they are facing,” he said.
