Japan Donates Blood Donation Bus to Vanuatu’s National Hospital

Vanuatu’s healthcare system has received a major boost this week with the handover of a new blood donation bus from the Government of Japan to the National Referral Hospital.

As one of Vanuatu’s long-standing diplomatic partners, Japan has supported the country across many sectors, including health. On Wednesday, in front of community leaders and the public, Japan’s Ambassador to Vanuatu, His Excellency Okuda Naohisa, officially handed over the vehicle.

Blood donations are critical during emergencies and disasters, but the hospital’s blood bank often struggles with shortages. The new blood donation bus will allow health workers to travel into communities, improving access and increasing blood supplies.

Ambassador Okuda said he hopes the donation will make a life-saving difference.

“I sincerely hope that this blood donation vehicle will help save lives and enable more people to stay alive, benefiting both medical professionals and local residents in Vanuatu,” he stated.

Japan has also provided Vanuatu with a mammography unit to strengthen breast cancer screening.

As the National Hospital celebrates its 50th anniversary, health authorities say this donation builds the future of healthcare in Vanuatu and will help save many lives.
