Hon. Marie Louise Milne Represents Vanuatu at the 2025 Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders Meeting

Hon. MP Marie Louise Milne is currently in Suva, Fiji, where she is leading the Vanuatu delegation at the 2025 Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders Meeting (PIFWLM), taking place from 22 to 25 July. The annual gathering brings together women leaders from 18 Pacific Island Forum countries to strengthen collaboration on gender equality, social inclusion, and inclusive leadership across the Blue Pacific.

Before the official opening, Hon. Milne participated in a special joint session with the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM), held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. The Talanoa focused on “Future-Proofing Our Economies,” addressing the intersecting global challenges of trade fragmentation, financial volatility, and economic resilience.

The session provided a unique space for dialogue on practical solutions including job creation, innovation, and inclusive strategies that engage both women and youth. It also highlighted the importance of strong partnerships in driving economic growth across the region.

Vanuatu’s Ministry of Finance was represented at the FEMM session by Director Sewen and Deputy Director Nigel Malosu, who joined other Pacific officials in discussions on shaping a sustainable economic future.

Later this week, the Women Leaders Meeting will feature formal sessions including ministerial discussions, youth engagements, and civil society dialogues. One highlight will be a Talanoa between Women Leaders and Pacific Youth—including representatives from Vanuatu—on bridging generational leadership and finding shared solutions to pressing regional challenges.

Forum Secretary General Baron Waqa described the Women Leaders Meeting as more than just a conference:

“It is a reaffirmation of our regional commitment to gender equality and inclusive leadership as a foundation for peace, development, and resilience.”
