Hon. Matai Seremaiah, MP for the Luganville constituency, raised concerns in Parliament about the spread of one-sided information in both traditional and digital media. He noted that media outlets often issue repeated apologies for biased reporting, yet the problem continues.
He also highlighted the risks of misinformation being amplified when social media users with large followings share such content. This, he said, can seriously damage reputations.
To help improve accountability and traceability, MP Seremaiah called for all SIM cards to be registered and linked to users’ national ID cards, ensuring that any digital communication can be tied to a verified identity.
