Vanuatu Kaljarol Senta (VKS) authorities are still waiting for a response from the Royal Caribbean Group concerning recommendations made on the findings on the tourist attraction site earmarked on Lelepa Island.
Reports from VKS reveals that recommendations were made to the developer of the site after a Cultural and Historical Site Survey was conducted in 2019, however the Royal Caribbean Group has not made any attempts in addressing the recommendations, since 2019.
Edson Wille, the Archeologist and person responsible for the conducting the survey told VBTC News that his office made recommendations to the Royal Caribbean Group for archeologist to made a thorough excavation of the area to help collect and preserve the information about the first settlers on Lelepa Island.
Willie commented that the survey conducted also helps in identifying “tabu ples” for the developer before works can proceed.
The archeologist from cultural centre goes on to state that the recommendations made are not to stopped the development from happening however, it is to help keep their stories.
The Cultural and Historical Site Survey of 2019, by VKS shows that there are old remnants from WWII, clay pots shards from the Mangas period and extinct animal bones.
The Roimata domain, which is listed as a World Heritage Site, is on Lelepa island which the Royal Caribbean Group is planning on building a fun park as a tourist attraction.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Trades, Tourism, and Industry, Samson Samsen, has confirmed in parliament that there are ongoing discussions with he Royal Caribbean Group for their cruises to pass through the islands of North, such as Pentecost, Malekula and Espiritu Santo
