Vanuatu and New Zealand Strengthen Ties Through RSE Scheme and Visa-Free Access

The Recognized Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme and visa-free travel were key points of discussion between Vanuatu and New Zealand during official talks this week.

Prime Minister Hon. Jotham Napat acknowledged the RSE program as an important opportunity that has enabled many Ni-Vanuatu citizens to work in New Zealand’s agricultural sector.

“The government has recognized the importance of enhancing work protections, improving conditions, and increasing economic benefits under the scheme, ensuring its long-term sustainability and individual advantage,” PM Napat said.

He also thanked the New Zealand Government for its recent announcement of a visa-free arrangement for members of the Pacific Islands Forum, which includes Vanuatu.

“We also explore reciprocal visa arrangements to further facilitate trade, investments, and diplomatic relations between our nations,” he added.

Starting in July this year, the New Zealand Government will remove visa restrictions for Pacific Island Forum member countries, a move expected to boost regional mobility and cooperation.
