The Ministry of Health has received a donation from UNICEF to support the implementation of the National Electronic Immunization Registry (NEIR) and emergency nutrition assessments across Vanuatu.
The donated items include:
- 9 portable power stations (1000W BLUETTI)
- 9 portable solar panels (350W)
- 16 laptops
These tools will help health centres, especially in remote islands, record children’s vaccination data and conduct nutrition assessments during emergencies, even when power is limited.
Acting Director General of Health, Dr. Posikai Samuel Tapo, thanked UNICEF for its ongoing support toward the Ministry’s digital transformation.
UNICEF Pacific Chief for the Vanuatu Field Office, Eric Durpaire, said the project will ensure that “every child in Vanuatu is protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.”
The NEIR system will replace paper-based immunization records with a real-time digital database, allowing health workers to access information quickly and improve vaccination planning.
A pilot program will begin in Shefa and Malampa in 2025, followed by a nationwide rollout in 2026.
The initiative reflects the Government of Vanuatu’s commitment to using digital technology to strengthen health and nutrition services and ensure a healthier future for all children.
