Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape, today welcomed United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on a historic four-day official visit to PNG as part of the country’s 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations.
This is the first time a UN Secretary-General has visited PNG. Prime Minister Marape described the visit as a message of solidarity and recognition of the changes PNG has gone through in its 50 years as a strong and responsible voice in the international community.
The visit includes the UN Resident Coordinator in PNG, the High Representative for Least Developed Countries and SIDS, the Secretary-General’s special assistant, as well as security and media teams.
