Two New Community Halls Open in Paama to Serve as Evacuation Centres

Two new community halls have opened in Tavulai and Vauleli, Paama , soon to serve as evacuation centers for local communities.

The total cost of the two buildings is over 1 million vatu.

The first building, located in Tavulai Village, is called the Naleris Community Hall. Area Administrator Cyrus Willie said the hall will serve more than 70 people, and cost around VT800,000 to build.

The hall will also function as an evacuation center, equipped with a water tank to supply clean water to the community.

Cyrus Willie, Paama Area Administrator:
“One of the key parts of this project is the water tank, because we now have proper infrastructure to support the community.”

The village chief expressed appreciation to the government:

“We say thank you to the government for seeing our needs.”

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat, officially opened the new community hall.

“In the name of our area councils, high chiefs, and communities, we declare this hall officially open.”

In Vauleli, a Pathfinder parade led Minister Napuat, the Malekula MP, councillors, and officers from Internal Affairs to the site of the new Women’s Centre, which was built by local seasonal workers.

“On behalf of our government, we have the great honour to officially open the Vauleli Women’s Centre equipped with a water Tank,” said Minister Napuat.

The cost of the women’s centre was VT900,000, funded by the area council in Vauleli, Paama.
