A new Ombudsman should be expected after April, according to information from the Office of the President.

The appointment process is currently in consultation stage expecting to be finalised by the end of this month before the Head of State who holds the constitutional power to appoint an Ombudsman officiates the appointment.

In the interim, President Nikenike Vurobaravu has appointed former Ombudsman Mr. Hamilson Bulu as Acting Ombudsman.

However, this appointment by the Head of State has been disputed by the Office of the Ombudsman through a legal challenge in court.

The court case regarding the legality of the Acting Ombudsman appointment is scheduled for trial on May 30, 2025.
