The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) is pleased to announce a special session featuring Minister of Planning and Climate Change Adaptation, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu tomorrow, Tuesday 7 May 2024, from 11 am to 12 pm at the NUV auditorium.
This session is part of the “Happy Long Life” exhibition speaker series that offers opportunities for dialogue with students and faculty on environmental themes contributing to Vanuatu’s ranking 1st in the world out of over 150 countries in the 2024 Happy Planet Index.
Minister Regenvanu will explore critical legislative initiatives that have empowered indigenous control over environmental resources, including constitutional and statutory laws such as Chapter 12 Articles 73 & 74.
Attendees will gain insights into Vanuatu’s comprehensive environmental protection
framework, covering land laws, waste management regulations, maritime laws, conservation measures, and trade restrictions.
Participants will also learn about the People’s Plan, which balances development objectives with environmental and social well-being, alongside economic progress indicators.
Minister Regenvanu will explain Vanuatu’s pioneering role in advocating for climate justice globally, highlighting significant United Nations resolutions.
This session offers a unique opportunity to engage with Minister Regenvanu, whose career includes efforts to preserve cultural heritage, combat corruption through land law reforms, champion progressive waste management legislation, and international action on climate justice.
