“Mi Helti, Mi Hapi” is the theme of this year’s Vanuatu National Health Week, officially launched yesterday on World Health Day at Saralana Park in Port Vila.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Health Hon. John Still Tari Qetu reminded the public that while the government continues to invest heavily in the health sector, individual responsibility plays a critical role in building a healthier nation.
“Health is in our own hands. The government and the Ministry of Health can invest in expensive equipment and infrastructure, but it won’t be enough if individuals don’t take responsibility for their own wellbeing,” Minister Qetu stated.
He emphasized that unhealthy lifestyles—such as poor diets, smoking, alcohol consumption, and lack of exercise—are contributing to the country’s rising health issues, including amputations and chronic diseases.
Throughout Health Week, the public can access free health checkups and awareness sessions at Saralana Park. The initiative aims to empower communities with knowledge and encourage proactive health choices.
