Gino Lawac, 32 convictions in 21 years, same offence

Infamous con artist, Gino Lawac was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for 2 charges of obtaining money by deception, an offence he had been convicted for 32 times over a period of over 21 years.

The 37-year-old man was sentenced last week by the Supreme Court after he was found guilty of the offence in contrary section to section 13, B of the Penal Code [CAP. 135].

Justice Viran Molisa Trief,  found on the evidence that Lawac dishonestly obtained VT260,000 from his victim because he held out that it was for the payment of a deposit for a lease transfer.

However, no lease transfer has occurred and despite telling the victim through his wife that he would pay back the money, that has not occurred.

For the second charge, he was found guilty of obtaining VT10,000 from the man’s wife as payment for iron sheets which he failed to deliver.

Justice Trief stated that the sentencing principles applicable in the case will hold Lawac accountable for his criminal conduct, protecting the community, to denounce the criminal conduct, and to deter him and others from acting in the same manner in future.
