A major recovery milestone has been reached as essential construction materials—CVP pipes, timbers, wires, and cement—arrived at Herald Bay port this week. Local community members are working together to transport these materials to sites where footpaths will be rebuilt, restoring crucial access for residents.
In a press release it states that last year’s landslide caused severe damage, making it difficult for people to reach vital services. Now, thanks to the Adaptation to Climate Change in the Coastal Zone in Vanuatu (VCAP 2) project, efforts to rebuild are well underway.
Restoring Hope & Strengthening Resilience
The VCAP 2 project focuses on enhancing resilience by climate-proofing infrastructure in nine priority Area Council locations. The recent shipment of materials to Futuna Island is a testament to the strong partnership between the VCAP 2 team, local community, and key stakeholders.
“Our community has shown incredible strength and unity in the face of adversity. The rebuilding of our footpath is not just a construction project; it represents hope, resilience, and a reminder of our ancestors’ footsteps for a brighter future,” said Iso Nehimo, Area Administrator.
Commitment to a Stronger Future
The VCAP 2 team continues to work closely with community leaders and volunteers to ensure the successful completion of the footpath, providing safe and reliable access for everyone on Futuna Island.
