In a VBTC TOKBAK SHOW,Mr. Crimson Bani, Government and Compliance Officer from the Malvatumauri Office stated that “Chiefs Day is for everyone,” Bani emphasized. “The role of a chief extends beyond a title—it encompasses the entire community. The Nakamal should be a place where everyone, regardless of title, can come together for various purposes, such as safety and evacuation.” He stressed the importance of increasing public awareness about the Nakamal and its role as a community hub.

Mr. Bani, highlighted the ceremonial lighting of the first Nakamal by chiefs as a symbolic start to the collective work of all chiefs in Vanuatu. The official opening on March 5 will see around 20 chief representatives gather in Port Vila. This marks the beginning of a collective effort for all Nakamals across the islands, with each region expected to open its Nakamal as part of the chiefs’ resolution.

The official ceremony will include custom rituals, such as a traditional thank-you ceremony for those who helped build the Nakamal. The event promises to be a blend of respect for tradition and community engagement.
