Buama’s Resilient Journey to USP Graduation

For Anna Buama, education is more than just a pathway to a career—it’s a tribute to her mother’s unwavering sacrifices and a promise of a brighter future.

Now enrolled at The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Emalus Campus, Buama is determined to complete her Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Management), driven by the dream of having her mother witness her graduation day.

Raised by a single mother since the age of 12, Buama understands the challenges that life brings but has never let adversity define her.

“Changes in our family dynamics meant I grew up with my mother and overcame some tough situations in life,” she shared. “Despite this, my mother always ensured that we had everything we needed to get by.”

Originally from Tanna but raised in Port Vila, Buama is one of six siblings and has always seen education as the gateway to opportunity. Her journey at USP began in high school when she was introduced to the university through various courses.

“I knew I wanted to attend USP for higher learning,” she said.

Buama highlights the multicultural learning environment at USP as one of its greatest strengths, especially as a French speaker embracing bilingualism. Though she initially found university life overwhelming, she quickly adapted with the help of supportive friends and campus staff.

“The programmes are engaging, the cultural activities are exciting, and the flexible learning modes make it easier for students to balance their studies,” she added.

A passionate music lover, Buama firmly believes that education has no age limit.

“There’s enough room for everyone to learn,” she encouraged. “If you believe you can do it, then you will surely achieve it.”

As USP’s Emalus Campus hosts its Enrolment Hub from 3–19 February 2025 at the Moot Court venue (8 AM – 4 PM, Monday to Friday), Buama urges new and returning students to take advantage of the available support services, including online applications, course registrations, academic counseling, and financial assistance.

For those considering higher education, her message is simple:

    “Start now—you won’t regret it!”
