The Australian Government continues to strengthen its partnership with Vanuatu by supporting the upcoming general election on 16 January.
Australian Deputy High Commissioner Emily Fisher joined Electoral Commission Chairman Edward Kaltamat to officially hand over 60 ballot boxes and seals, donated by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) and delivered by the Australian Defence Force in December 2024.
These items, along with 2,000 portable polling booths donated last year, will play a vital role in ensuring a smooth election process. Australia is also assisting with the transportation of electoral equipment and personnel, including support for vessels and air transport to remote areas.
Chairman Kaltamat expressed gratitude, highlighting the shared commitment between Vanuatu and Australia to build public confidence in Vanuatu’s electoral processes.
Deputy High Commissioner Fisher added, “In the wake of the 17 December earthquake, Australia is honoured to stand by Vanuatu and support the successful roll-out of this general election.”
