Ambassador Okuda Pledges Support to Vanuatu’s Recovery with Japan’s Expertise in Disaster Prevention

Since the 7.3 earthquake on December 17, H.E. Okuda Naohisa, Japan’s Ambassador to Vanuatu, has been focused on finding ways Japan can assist Vanuatu. Rather than being overwhelmed by challenges, he encourages the use of this opportunity to rebuild better cities and support sustainable growth in the country.

Ambassador Okuda promises to work closely with Vanuatu’s government and people, sharing Japan’s expertise in disaster prevention to aid recovery efforts.

At the February 24 celebration for Japan’s Emperor Naruhito’s 65th birthday, Ambassador Okuda spoke about the Imperial Family’s long history of helping disaster-affected communities and fostering global friendships, especially with countries like Vanuatu. He expressed his gratitude for the support Vanuatu showed after Japan’s major disasters and emphasized Japan’s commitment to returning that kindness.

In his address, His Excellency Nikenike Vurobaravu, President of Vanuatu, also spoke of Japan’s ongoing support in areas such as health, education, and disaster resilience, further strengthening the bond between the two nations.

The event, held at The Melanesian Hotel in Port Vila, marked the Emperor’s Birthday and served to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Vanuatu.
