Ambae and Penama Province are mourning the loss of Honourable John Still Tari Qetu, former Member of Parliament for Ambae and former Minister of Health, who passed away last night.

Born on 7 July 1983 in Vuiberugu, North Ambae, Mr Tari Qetu dedicated years of service to the people of Ambae and Vanuatu.

He served as Minister of Justice and Community Services before becoming Minister of Health, where he focused on improving health services for people living in rural and remote communities.

He leaves behind his wife, Hilda Liu, and their five children.

In a message of sympathy, Prime Minister Jotham Napat described the passing as “truly heartbreaking”, saying Ambae and Penama Province had lost a strong and committed leader who gave his heart to serving his people and the nation.

The Prime Minister called on communities, churches, chiefs and the people of Vanuatu to come together to support and comfort the people of Ambae and the late MP’s family during this difficult time.
