The VBTC Board of Directors is aware of concerns raised regarding disciplinary matters within the Corporation, including matters that have resulted in the termination of some staff.

The Board takes these concerns seriously and has put in place appropriate measures to ensure that VBTC’s disciplinary processes are fair, consistent and conducted in accordance with the Corporation’s policies and applicable employment requirements.

In doing so, the Board remains mindful of the important distinction between governance and management. The Board’s role is to provide strategic direction, oversight and assurance, while the day-to-day management of staff and disciplinary matters remains the responsibility Of Management within its delegated authority.

The measures put in place by the Board are therefore intended to strengthen oversight and accountability without interfering with individual employment matters or usurping Management’s legitimate responsibilities.

The Board will safeguard the rights of employees, uphold the authority and accountability of Management, and ensure that VBTC is governed with integrity, fairness and professionalism.

The Board remains committed to working constructively with Management and staff to ensure that VBTC continues to operate as a professional, accountable and trusted national institution
