Vanuatu is taking part in a regional training programme aimed at developing athletics at the grassroots level and encouraging more children to enjoy and participate in the sport.
Athletics Vanuatu Secretary General Jennifer Atisson and coach Sandy Molu are representing Vanuatu at the World Athletics Kids’ Athletics Train the Trainer course in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The programme focuses not only on training children to compete but also on making athletics enjoyable and accessible while helping them develop basic sporting skills.
Atisson said the participants had already learned a lot during the first two days of the programme and were preparing to put their new knowledge into practice.
“We enjoyed and learned a lot from day one to day two, and today we will put into practice what we have learned.”
The Kids’ Athletics programme is designed to give children a positive introduction to athletics through simple, fun and engaging activities.
The training is expected to help develop local trainers who can share the skills and knowledge gained from the programme with children and other coaches in Vanuatu.
