Pascaline Taitsegon has been awarded Player of the Match following an outstanding performance against the Brisbane Lions Academy Under-16 side in Australia.

Pascaline is one of two female players from AFL Vanuatu Under-16 currently attending the junior AFL trial camp in Australia. This marks the fourth year Vanuatu has participated in the development program.

Top junior players from across Pacific nations were selected to form the Pacific Academy team, which is competing against two Under-16 academy teams on the Gold Coast.

Pascaline, selected from Epau Village, is representing Vanuatu Under-16B and is attending the camp for the first time. Her strong skills and performance on the field earned her a medal as Best on Ground at the conclusion of the match.

VBTC Sports attempted to reach the national coach currently in Australia for comment but was unsuccessful. However, it is understood the AFL Championship began on the 18th and is expected to conclude today.

The championship includes two trial camps — the first for girls, with the boys’ training camp scheduled to begin next month. AFL Vanuatu will also be represented in the boys’ division by Oliver Songi from Seaside Community, marking his second appearance, and Jim Vireibo from Central Pentecost Club in Port Vila.

The week-long trial camp forms part of the overall championship program for both girls and boys divisions.
