Government Launches Updated 2025 Building Code

The government, through the Ministry of Internal Affairs, launched yesterday the new Building Code 2025 version, which will set new standards for building infrastructure, starting from citizens’ homes to government buildings.

This new code comes 8 years after the last update in 2017, and during this time Vanuatu has grown quickly, new technology has emerged, and climate and disaster risks have increased.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Solomon Napuat, officially launched the new Building Code together with its stakeholders.

Napuat said that since the government launched the National Housing Policy Framework last month, it is appropriate that a new building code is also introduced to complement the framework.

“We have launched the 2025 edition. Like I stated, when we launched the National Housing Policy, the next part of it is the building codes. Today we launch the 2025 edition that is more updated and more modern, and it will take into consideration the disasters that we face, like the earthquake last year. So now we are launching our National Building Code.”
