Two members of the current legislature appeared this morning in court in relation to numerous criminal charges.
The two high profile cases involving MP Jay Nwgele and MP Jessy Luo were both handled by the Acting Public Prosecutor himself, Simcah Blessing at the Magistrate Court and Supreme Court respectively.
Member of Parliament, Jessy Luo, also known as Xing Jian , pleads not guilty to 17 charges today at the Supreme Court.
The charges are as follows:
-1 charge of Obtaining a valuable information by deception
-2 charges of False statement 1 charge of Providing false and misleading information to a person
-2 charges of perjury
-5 charges of Failure to comply with and observe the law
-6 charges of Failure to comply with and observe the fundamental principles of leadership contained in article 66 of the constitution
At the Magistrate Court Acting Public Prosecutor, Simcah Blessing succeeded in convinced the Magistrate that the prosecution has sufficient evidence against MP Ngwele enabling the case to be committed to Supreme court.
Charges laid against MP Ngwele are as follows
- Obtaining money by deception
2. Failure to comply with the law
3. Failure to comply with and observe the fundamental principles of leadership – demeaning office and position
4. Failure to comply with and observe the fundamental principles of leadership allowing integrity to be called into question
MP Jay Ngwele is scheduled to appear for plea at The Supreme Court on November 19 , while MP Luo pretrial conference is scheduled for December 15.
