Defending champions Ifira Black Bird FC will face iCount Yatel FC in the grand final of the Vanuatu Made Shield this Saturday at 2pm at Port Vila Municipal Stadium.
This year marks the third edition of the Vanuatu Made Shield, and both clubs have earned their place in the final after strong performances through the pool stages, quarterfinals, and semifinals.
In last weekend’s semifinal, iCount Yatel overcame Mauriki FC 1–0, with Alex Saniel scoring just before halftime from a Luka corner. Despite missing a second-half penalty, iCount Yatel held on to secure their spot in the grand final.
Ifira Black Bird’s semifinal against rivals Galaxy FC was another highlight, attracting a large crowd of football fans. Galaxy led 1–0 at halftime, but Ifira equalized in the second half, sending the match to penalties after a 1–1 draw at full-time. In the shootout, Ifira prevailed to book their second consecutive grand final appearance.
The grand final clash this weekend promises to be a thrilling contest as Ifira look to defend their title while iCount Yatel aim to lift the trophy for the first time.
The Vanuatu Made Shield is supported by the Government of Vanuatu through the Ministry of Industry, in partnership with the Port Vila Football Association, as a way to promote local food, value-adding, and healthy living through sport.
