Team Monmart stole the show in the 2025 AFL Vanuatu Men’s Championship Grand Final, crushing Black Seed to claim the championship.
The thrilling match, held last weekend at the Footy Academy in Kawenu Field, was one of the highlights of the tournament. Fans were treated to a display of power and skill from both teams, making it one of the most exciting games of the season.
The tournament was part of the AFL Vanuatu Festival 2025, which brought together men’s and women’s teams for a week-long celebration of sport. Kawenu Field was colorful and lively, with many spectators and parents bringing their children to enjoy the festival.
The event was attended by key officials, including the First PA of the Ministry of Justice and Sports, a representative from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Australian High Commissioner, and major sponsors such as Carpenters Motors, Digicel Vanuatu, Vanuatu Agricultural Supply, and Vanuatu Spirit.
George Amos, First PA of the Ministry of Justice and Sports, delivered a speech on behalf of Minister Job Andy during the medal ceremony for the winning teams.
“AFL is a new program for Vanuatu, offering young sportsmen opportunities to develop their talent. This sport has been promoted throughout the ministry, and we can see the potential of our youth through these games,” Amos said.
The AFL Vanuatu program this week also featured competitions for under-16 school teams, culminating in last weekend’s AFL Vanuatu Festival. AFL management was also conducting selections for the AFL Pacific Cup, which will take place in December this year.
The festival concluded with a live screening of the AFL match between Geelong Cats and Brisbane Lions.
