Vanuatu’s Under-19 women’s team has bowed out of the OFC U-19 Championship in Tahiti, following a heavy 11–0 defeat to New Zealand yesterday morning.
New Zealand dominated the match, leading 5–0 at halftime before sealing the result with six more goals in the second half.
The loss marks Vanuatu’s third straight defeat in the competition, ending hopes of qualifying for next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Head Coach Joel Rarua’s side earlier lost 1–0 to New Caledonia in their opening match and 2–0 to hosts Tahiti in their second outing.
With today’s victory, New Zealand advances to face the Cook Islands in the semifinals. In the other key match, Tahiti and New Caledonia drew 1–1, with New Caledonia advancing to meet Fiji in the second semifinal.
The semifinals of the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship will be played later this week.
