As Vanuatu prepares to celebrate its 45th Independence Anniversary, preparations are picking up across the country—including in Port Vila’s central business district, where shops are slowly reopening this week.
With the week drawing to a close, more and more businesses are getting back on their feet, setting up decorations, and preparing to welcome customers ahead of the July 30 celebrations.
Some shop owners who reopened today told VBTC News they are excited to be trading again after recent disruptions, and are looking forward to being part of this year’s Independence festivities.
“It feels good to reopen and prepare for Independence. We’re happy to see the town slowly coming back to life,” one shopkeeper said.
The government has called on citizens, businesses, and communities to unite and celebrate 45 years of independence with pride and respect.
