Today, June 18, marks Shefa Day — but it will not be observed as a public holiday.
VBTC News understands that an amendment to the Public Holidays Act was made during the first ordinary sitting of Parliament this year. The amendment states that provincial days will no longer be officially declared as public holidays.
As a result, schools and other public services in Shefa Province will operate as normal. However, commemorations for Shefa Day can still go ahead.
The 31st anniversary celebration of Shefa Province will take place in Siviri, North Efate, under the theme “Reviving Our Traditions and Values.”
