The Department of Climate Change (DoCC) and Respond Global Helper1 have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a major step towards improving accessibility to remote and vulnerable locations for climate action initiatives.

For years, Respond Global Helper1 has sought collaboration with DoCC to support its mission. At the signing ceremony, Dr. Ian, Managing Director of Respond Global Helper1, expressed enthusiasm for this long-awaited partnership, stating:

“We look forward to strong collaboration and productive discussions in the coming months.”

Addressing Climate Challenges in Remote Areas

Acting DoCC Director Nelson Kalo highlighted the long-standing challenge of logistical support in reaching Vanuatu’s most climate-vulnerable communities. He acknowledged Dr. Basil Leodoro, In-Country Operations Manager, for his leadership in making this partnership a reality.

DoCC, through its Vanuatu Climate Change Resilience Project (VCCRP) and Vanuatu Coastal Adaptation Project Phase II (VCAP II), is already working in 38 Area Councils across the country. This new partnership is expected to enhance climate resilience programs and support the goal of a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Vanuatu.

Vanuatu’s first-ever Early Warning Backup Centre in Luganville, Santo
Provincial climate action support, including the annual Climate Change Symposium in Torba Province

Torba, which has long struggled with transportation challenges, will now benefit from better government outreach and climate action initiatives through this collaboration.

A New Chapter for Climate Resilience

This MoU marks a turning point in ensuring that vulnerable communities receive the necessary support to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
