Sainte Jeanne d’Arc Primary School Set to Open in 2025 Despite Challenges

Sainte Jeanne d’Arc Primary School is preparing to open its doors in 2025, despite setbacks caused by recent disasters. The school has already begun setting up temporary tent classrooms to ensure students can resume their education.

The School’s acting Principal, Ms. Hoke Claudia told VBTC News that four of the school’s classrooms are currently located in the red zone. However, the school is working on solutions to ensure learning continues.

“Right now, we know that four of our classrooms are in the red zone, but we are seeing UNICEF come in to install tents, ensuring that school can start on February 3,” Claudia stated.

Engineers have advised the school administration that the affected classrooms will no longer be in use due to safety concerns. A large crack has formed behind the buildings, raising fears of further disasters.

The classrooms are located near the edge of a hill, increasing the risk of structural instability.

VBTC News also observed that a two-story building on the school premises remains in a deteriorated state. Damage from past cyclones has removed its roofing, and as of today, repairs have yet to be completed.

In preparation for the school reopening, Ms. Claudia has called on parents and students to attend a general meeting on Monday, February 3, 2025.

“On February 3, I am calling all parents and their children to attend a general meeting where we will elect two new members for the school council and the school community association,” she announced.

Sainte Jeanne d’Arc Primary School is set to open on February 3, in alignment with other government schools across the country
