    900 Ni-Vanuatu Unemployed

    According to a recent update from VCCI, the earthquake has had a significant impact on businesses and employment in Vanuatu. Their latest survey data reveals:

    • Nearly 900 full-time jobs lost, with numbers expected to rise.
    • Only 41% of businesses have relocated, but many remain partially operational.
    • The economic impact is severe, affecting both businesses and families.

    This data is being used by VCCI to advocate for urgent Government support.

    Key Support Measures Proposed by VCCI

    VCCI has outlined several recovery initiatives for Government consideration, including:

    • Employment Stabilization Payments for affected workers (Not yet approved)
    • Zero/low-interest loans to support business rebuilding (Not yet approved)
    • Financial assistance for CBD business relocation costs (Not yet approved)
    • Expanded import duty exemptions for struggling businesses (Not yet approved)
